A portable screwdriver designed for outdoor use, ready to work under all conditions.
The ACG Terra Torq is the perfect outdoor tool to bring on your next hiking tour. Its compact size and options to attach make it ideal to bring along and easy to access. Always ready to fix your gear — under all conditions.
The package was based on a set of predetermined components that had to be modified and rearranged to fit them into a new design. On top of that, the project required to apply the essential ACG 'look and feel' to a product not traditionally within the brand's range.
"What if All Conditions Gear would design a portable screwdriver?"
I further added some key parts, like the triangular carabiner to match the All Conditions Gear aesthetic.
Through a combination of sketching in VR and prototyping in
foam plus 3d printing, I explored different shapes and designed inspired by Nike‘s All Conditions Gear. In this short project the entire design was done in 21 hours.
Spark is not stuck to the desk. It is easy to carry around to wherever you are in the home. The softness of the shape invites the user to either carry Spark in their arms or using the integrated grip.
Spark is designed to be friendly and approachable but without appearing like a toy. Its shape and size invite interaction, whether children are carrying it in their arms or tapping its head to wake it up.
The challenge for the working prototype was to design it with mass production requirements in mind.

The focus points were ergonomics, brand identity and sustainability through repairability and a refurbishment life cycle.
The package was based on a set of predetermined components
that I modified and rearranged to fit them into my design. I further
added some key parts to match the All Conditions Gear aesthetic.
The base plate has a chamfer to hint at the easy portability of the product, giving it a lighter look when placed on a table.
Matching ACGs brand identity the Terra Torq screwdriver comes in a variety of bold and vibrant colorways. ABS is choosen as the main material to gurantee robustness and durability.
After an initial sketching phase I went quickly into virtual reality to try out my ideas in a 3D space in 1:1 scale. Working in passthrough allowed me to easily test and validate my proportions with all components right in front of me. Printing and assembling the final design was a great way to see the actual product come to life.
