The package was based on a set of predetermined components that had to be modified and rearranged to fit them into a new design. On top of that, the project required to apply the essential ACG 'look and feel' to a product not traditionally within the brand's range.

Ideate
For the ideation phase I moved the into Virtual Reality. Sketching in a 3D space allowed me to explore volumes and silhouettes at a 1:1 scale immediately. This immersive process bridged the gap between 2D concepting and 3D modeling, enabling a more intuitive understanding of the product’s spatial presence and proportions.

Validate
Following the VR ideation, I translated the digital concepts into quick foam models to validate the design’s physical ergonomics. These low-fidelity mockups were essential for tactile testing, allowing me to evaluate grip, weight distribution, and hand positioning.

I utilized 3D printing to evaluate the product’s tactile experience. This hands-on testing phase was essential for refining the form's proportions and ensuring that the internal mechanical features such as screw bosses aligned perfectly for assembly.

With production in mind
With production in mind
The challenge for the working prototype was to design it with mass production requirements in mind, including the integration of screw bosses, structural ribbing and draft angles.

The focus points were ergonomics, brand identity and sustainability through repairability and a refurbishment life cycle.

Assembly
Assembly
Working within the constraints of a standardized component set, I customized the internal configuration to maximize space efficiency. This led to a precise final assembly that unified all mechanical and aesthetic elements into the finished prototype.

Behind the scenes
After an initial sketching phase I went quickly into virtual reality to try out my ideas in a 3D space in 1:1 scale. Working in passthrough allowed me to easily test and validate my proportions with all components right in front of me. Printing and assembling the final design was a great way to see the actual product come to life.
