Making wet and dry vacuum cleaning more exciting and less tedious.

The HoverVac is a vacuum cleaner concept that uses an air cushion to hover instead of wheels. This improves the mobility and overall user experience. On top of that the motor and by that the center of gravity is located in the base of the HoverVac. That makes the Vacuum cleaner more stable and allows easy access from the top when emptying the bin.

Testing and analysing the existing product helped to discover the most relevant design opportunities. I found mobility and overall handling to be the biggest pain points.

"What could the next generation of wet & dry vacuum cleaners look like?"

This concept features a unique airflow system that allows the unit to hover slightly. During stationary use, the airflow is directed out of the system, similar to a standard vacuum. However, when the user is ready to

move, the air is instantly redirected to create a cushion beneath the product. This "hover" functionality eliminates the need for wheels, improving mobility and the overall user experience.

To further enhance the mobility during usage, the hose is connected to a rotatable ring which allows the user to walk around the machine while vacuuming.

In addition to following Kärcher's primary design guidelines, I proposed alternative CMF variants that explored a more modern appearance and the use of sustainable materials like cork.

Through a direct collaboration with Kärcher, we conducted a deep-dive analysis of their current products to identify pain points and design opportunities. This research informed our conceptual vision for the next generation of wet and dry vacuum cleaners. We were honored to present our final concepts at the Kärcher factory in Romania.
